Vitex leucoxylon, also known as the white wood chaste tree, is a deciduous plant in the Lamiaceae family. It can reach a height of 15m and is native to the Western Ghats region of India and Sri Lanka. The bark of this plant is brown in color and its leaves are compound with a digitate shape. The inflorescence is in the form of corymbose cymes and the corolla is white with a purple hue. The fruit of the plant is a purplish black, four-seeded smooth drupe. This plant is known by various names in different languages, including නැබඩ in Sinhala, Nir nocchi and Nir-noochi in Tamil, and Beemis, Vellanotchi, Attunochi, Neernochi, and Atta nochii in Malayalam. It also has names in Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, and Sanskrit.
