Thymus moroderi is a small plant that belongs to the Thymus genus and is native to certain areas in the southern part of Alicante province and the contiguous region of Murcia in Spain. It is often referred to as cantahueso or cantueso in Spanish and Valencian. This plant should not be confused with Lavandula stoechas, which is also called cantueso but belongs to a different genus. Thymus moroderi has a modest appearance with dark green leaves and reaches a maximum size of 25cm in radius and 20cm in height. It blooms from April to early June, transforming its dull appearance with its striking flowers. This plant is well adapted to dry conditions and poor soils, particularly those with traces of gypsum. While it is not listed as an endangered species, its patchy distribution and the risk of flower picking for traditional uses make it uncommon. One popular use of Thymus moroderi is in the production of a local liquor called cantueso. The flowers are also traditionally picked and dried for consumption as a herbal tea, known for its stomach-soothing properties. Efforts have been made to domesticate this plant for commercial cultivation, considering its potential uses in essential oils and
