Salvia venulosa is a perennial plant found in a small region of Colombia, growing at high elevations in shaded areas. It has narrow leaves and a unique wine-red flower. A study in 2010 found that it is the closest known relative to Salvia divinorum, a plant with hallucinogenic properties. However, this study only included a small number of Salvia species and it is possible that another, unidentified species is actually more closely related to S. divinorum. There is no evidence that S. venulosa has any hallucinogenic effects.
