Salvia rubescens is a perennial flowering plant found in Mérida, Venezuela. It was first collected in 1993 and identified as S. rubescens in 2001 by the University of California Botanical Garden. This plant can grow up to 4-5 feet tall and has mid-green ovate leaves with a sawtooth edge. The leaves are covered in fine hairs and can grow up to 4.5 inches long and 3.5 inches wide. The inflorescences, or flower clusters, grow above the foliage and bloom from midsummer until the first frost. The flowers are a vibrant red-orange color and grow in widely spaced whorls. The plant gets its name from the Latin word "rubescens" which means "becoming red".
