Salvia recognita is a perennial plant found in central Turkey, typically growing in light shade near cliffs at lower elevations. It contains a small amount of salvinorin A, a psychoactive compound. The plant has a clumping growth habit with divided leaves ranging in size from 3-4 inches to 1 foot long. The leaves are light green and covered in thick hairs, giving them a grayish appearance. The flowers are pink and grow in whorls, with gland and hair-covered calyces. The flower stalks can reach up to 3 feet in length and have widely spaced flowers.
