Salvia leucantha, also known as the Mexican bush sage, is a perennial plant native to central and eastern Mexico. It has white flowers that emerge from colorful bracts and grows up to 1.3 meters tall and 2 meters wide. This plant is not frost hardy, but is popular for its velvety blue or purple inflorescences. It is low-maintenance and grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. The flowers of Salvia leucantha attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. Its essential oil is rich in sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and has a high concentration of bornyl acetate. This plant has ornamental value and has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Its Latin name, Leucantha, means 'white-flowered'.
