Salvia interrupta is a perennial plant that belongs to the Lamiaceae family and is native to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. It can be found growing in shaded forests and on limestone slopes at elevations between 1,300 to 1,500 ft. The plant has apple-green three-lobed leaves and produces large violet flowers with a distinct white center that attracts insects for pollination. It is often confused with other plants such as Salvia candelabrum and Salvia ringens due to its similar appearance. In cultivation, it blooms in late spring and early summer, with a second flowering in October. It is recommended for the front of borders or as a single specimen in a large pot. Salvia interrupta was first described by Danish botanist Peder Kofod Anker Schousboe in 1801 and has since become popular in both North America and Europe.
