Salvia evansiana is a perennial plant that is commonly found in the alpine meadows, hillsides, and forests of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in China. It can grow up to 45 cm tall and has ovate to triangular-ovate leaves. The plant produces racemes or panicles that are 10 to 20 cm long, with a straight corolla that is 2.6 to 3.5 cm long. There are two varieties of this plant, with slight differences in bract and calyx size, but the most notable difference is in the color of the corolla. Salvia evansiana var. evansiana has a blue-purple flower with some yellow at the base, while Salvia evansiana var. scaposa has a white or cream-yellow flower.
