Salvia chiapensis, also known as Chiapas sage, is a perennial herb native to the Chiapas province in Mexico. It can be found in cloud forests at elevations between 7000 and 9500 feet. This plant was first introduced to horticulture in the 1980s, possibly due to a collecting trip by the University of California Botanical Garden. Chiapas sage typically grows to be 1.5-2 feet tall and wide, with multiple stems emerging from the rootstock. Its leaves are glossy and deeply veined, growing in an ivy-green color and spaced widely along the stem. The flowers of this plant are a vibrant fuchsia color, with 3-6 flowers growing in whorls and spaced out along the inflorescence. The flowers are covered in hairs and have a pea-green calyx that is 0.5 inches long.
