Galeopsis pubescens, also known as the hairy and downy hempnettle, is a herbaceous annual plant species in the Lamiaceae family. It was first described by Austrian botanist Wilibald Swibert Joseph Gottlieb von Besser in 1809. There are two subspecies and three varieties of this plant, with a long list of possible synonyms. It can reach up to 50 centimeters in height and has scarlet flowers arranged in a whorled inflorescence. The plant is widely distributed across Europe and can be found in various habitats, including forests and man-made landscapes. It is classified as a therophyte species, meaning it survives unfavorable conditions in the form of seed. In the past, it was used in traditional medicine.
