Agastache scrophulariifolia, commonly known as purple giant hyssop, is a perennial plant native to the US and Northern Ontario, Canada. It is a beneficial plant to pollinators and is noted for its medicinal properties. It tends to grow in disturbed or open areas where it does not have to interact with non-native competitive plants. It has several spiked inflorescence and flowers that range from lavender to pink in color. It is listed as endangered in Connecticut and Massachusetts, as threatened in Maryland and Vermont, and as a special concern in Kentucky and Tennessee. It is used for its aromatic effects and its leaves are edible. The Meskwaki use an infusion of the root as a diuretic, and also use a compound of the plant heads medicinally.

Germination/Propagation Top
Suggest a correction or add new data!Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment. |
Requires Light or Surface Sowing: These seeds need light to germinate and should not be covered with soil or only very lightly. They are often very small and sown directly on the surface of the growing medium. |
