Podranea ricasoliana, also known as the pink trumpet vine, is a flowering plant native to South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia. It has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. This evergreen, vining shrub can grow up to 5 meters tall and has dark green leaves with a toothed margin. Its fragrant pink flowers have reddish stripes and are bell-shaped, reaching up to 7.5 cm in size. The plant produces cylindrical capsules that open to release winged seeds. While native to South Africa, it has been introduced to other regions such as Morocco, Spain, and the Caribbean. However, it is considered a weed in Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii due to its ability to smother surrounding vegetation. The plant is hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as -5 °C.
