Xerothamnella herbacea is a unique plant species that is native to Australia and belongs to the acanthus family. It is a sprawling perennial herb that can grow up to 30 cm in height and has dark green leaves with pale undersides. The plant produces small, bright pink to mauve flowers and club-shaped fruits. It is found in the Brigalow Belt South IBRA bioregion of south-eastern Queensland, typically in shaded areas with heavy clay soils. Unfortunately, this species is endangered due to competition with invasive plants and changes in fire patterns. It is protected under both Australia's EPBC Act and Queensland's Nature Conservation Act.
