Erodium acaule is a perennial plant that belongs to the Geraniaceae family. It grows up to 15-25 cm in height and has sparse, appressed hairs. The root is vertical and lignified, while the leaves are rosulate and pinnatisect. The flowers are bright pink and about 1.5 cm in diameter, with petals that are 2-3 times longer than the calyx. The fruits have a long beak of 4-5 cm. This plant can be found flowering almost all year round in fields and waste grounds in the coastal, mountainous, and Beqaa valley regions of Lebanon. It is also found in Syria, the Palestine region, the Eastern Mediterranean, and southern Europe. The name Erodium comes from the Greek word for heron, as the fruit resembles the bill of a heron, while the specific name acaule means stemless in Greek.
