Spermacoce alata, also known as the winged false buttonweed, is a perennial herb found in the Rubiaceae family. It is commonly found in warm regions of the Western Hemisphere and has also been naturalized in many other parts of the world. The plant has square stems with wings along the corners and elliptical to oblong leaves. Its flowers are white to pale purple and grow in clusters. This species is native to southern Mexico, Central America, some Caribbean islands, and parts of South America. It has also been reported to be naturalized in tropical Africa, China, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and various other locations.
