Galium obtusum, also known as bluntleaf bedstraw or wild madder, is a small herbaceous plant native to eastern North America. It belongs to the Rubiaceae family and is characterized by its white flowers with black-tipped stamens and blunt leaf tips. This plant is found in a variety of habitats, including deciduous forests, wetlands, and meadows. While it is considered a noxious weed in some states, it has also been found to have positive associations with other plant species. Galium obtusum requires full or partial sun and moist soils for optimal growth and typically blooms in April and May. While it is not of concern in most eastern states, it is classified as potentially extirpated in Maine and is rare or endangered in other states.
