Galium californicum, also known as California bedstraw, is a flowering plant in the coffee family that is native to California. It is a variable plant, ranging from a small perennial herb to a sprawling woody-based shrub. The plant is dioecious, with male and female plants producing different types of flowers. There are seven subspecies of Galium californicum, all of which are endemic to California. One of these subspecies, the El Dorado bedstraw, is listed as a rare and endangered species. It grows in the Sierra Nevada foothills and is distinguished by its narrower leaves. Overall, Galium californicum is an important part of California's ecosystem, often found in moist and shady habitats in hills and mountainous areas.
