Gentiana andrewsii, commonly known as the bottle gentian, closed gentian, or closed bottle gentian, is a species of flowering plant in the gentian family Gentianaceae. Native to northeastern North America, it is a perennial herb that blooms in late summer (August to October) with bottle-shaped flowers that are typically a rich blue color and have closed mouths. The plant was named in honor of Henry C. Andrews, an English botanical artist and engraver. It is found in wet to dry-mesic prairies and prairie fens, primarily in loamy soils, but it can also be found in sandy areas, such as near Great Lakes shorelines. It is pollinated by bees, including Anthophora terminalis, Bombus fervidus, Bombus griseocollis, and Bombus impatiens, and is threatened in the US states of New York and Maryland.

Begin at 20°C for 6 weeks, cool to 4°C for 6 weeks, then gradually increase to 10°C over 6 weeks. If no germination, the cycle is repeated.
Requires Light or Surface Sowing: These seeds need light to germinate and should not be covered with soil or only very lightly. They are often very small and sown directly on the surface of the growing medium.
avoid pricking out individually, transplant seedlings in clumps
