Subtribe Ichnocarpinae in Tribe Apocyneae

In botanical taxonomy, a subtribe is a rank used to group closely related genera within a tribe. It sits below tribe and above genus in the hierarchy.

Subtribes help organize diverse tribes into finer, natural groupings of genera with shared morphological or genetic characteristics. For example, within the tribe Heliantheae (family Asteraceae), the subtribe Helianthinae includes the genus Helianthus (sunflowers). In Orchidaceae, the tribe Cymbidieae contains subtribes such as Oncidiinae and Catasetinae.

Subtribes are further divided into genera and then species, reflecting evolutionary relationships and shared traits.
