Sarcolobus globosus is a twining shrub native to tropical regions of Asia. It is found in mangrove forests of India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar-Burma, the Philippines and Indonesia. The leaves and rhizomes are used as medicine, while the seeds are poisonous and used as bait to kill dogs and wild animals. Chemical constituents of the plant include flavonoids, rotenoids, phenolyc glycosides, isoflavones, and barbigerone. It is listed by the FDA as poisonous and has been used to kill cats and tigers. It is also used as an herbal medicine for treatment of rheumatism, dengue and fever, and is known to have significant antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.
