Mondia whitei is a perennial herbaceous/woody climber that belongs to the Apocynaceae family and has milky latex. It is found in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. The plant is known for its medicinal properties and is commonly referred to as 'gondolosi' or 'mukombero'. Due to its high demand, initiatives have been taken to propagate the species and re-establish it in the wild. The plant has large leaves, reddish-purple flowers with a malodorous scent, and semi-woody fruits. Its name is derived from the Zulu word 'umondi' and the species epithet honors A.S. White, a South African farmer who sent specimens to Kew.
