Cynanchum viminale is a leafless succulent plant found in West Africa, the Indian Ocean, and Western Pacific region. It is known by various names and has a wide distribution, growing in a range of environments from rainforests to deserts. The plant produces a milky exudate that can cause burns, and it has been known to be toxic to livestock. Its taxonomic status is controversial, with some taxonomists using the name Cynanchum viminale and others using Sarcostemma viminale. The plant has been traditionally used as a food source and for medicinal purposes, but caution is advised due to its poisonous nature.
