Alyxia ruscifolia, also known as chainfruit or prickly alyxia, is a shrub commonly found in high rainfall areas in eastern Australia. Its natural distribution ranges from Wollongong in New South Wales to the Wet Tropics and even extends to New Guinea. This versatile plant can thrive in a variety of environments, from sub-tropical islands to exposed rocky cliffs. It is typically found in rainforests and sometimes in sclerophyll forests. The shrub can grow up to 2 meters tall and has narrow, glossy leaves arranged in whorls. Fragrant white flowers bloom in spring and summer, followed by orange to red fruits that are 8 to 11 mm in diameter.
