Alfaroa guanacastensis is a species of plant in the Juglandaceae family found in the vicinity of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It grows to a height of 90 feet with a DBH of up to 2 feet, and has a white sapwood and pink heartwood. The leaves are pinnately compound, with opposite to sub-opposite leaflets. The tree is monoecious, with a staminate inflorescence of several erect catkins and a pistillate inflorescence of a terminal spike. The fruit is an oval nut with a bitter meat, and germination is hypogeal.
