Casuarina junghuhniana, also known as the mountain ru or red-tipped ru, is a tree in the Casuarinaceae family that is native to Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands. It can grow up to 15-35 meters tall and has slender, green to grey-green twigs with small scale-like leaves. The tree is dioecious, producing small catkin-like inflorescences and oval woody fruits. It is able to fix atmospheric nitrogen and has a symbiotic relationship with a Frankia actinomycete. There are two subspecies of this tree, one found in Java and the other in Timor, Wetar, Sumba, and Sumbawa. It has been introduced to Pakistan and Bangladesh for reforestation purposes and is also grown as an ornamental plant and for its wood, which is used for shingles, fencing, and firewood.
