Casuarina cristata, also known as belah or muurrgu, is a flowering plant native to inland eastern Australia. It is a dioecious tree with fissured or scaly bark, drooping branchlets, and scale-like leaves arranged in whorls. The male trees produce spikes of flowers, while the female trees have cones covered in rusty hairs. Belah is an important component of the endangered Brigalow ecological community and is found in open forests over clay plains, often growing with other species such as brigalow and bimble box. It can reproduce through suckering and seedlings only appear after periods of high rainfall.
