Alnus nitida, also known as the west Himalayan alder, is a tree species found in Pakistan, the western Himalayas, and Nepal. It can grow up to 20-25 meters and is commonly found along river banks. The tree is used for timber, firewood, and as a street tree in local communities. Its bark is also used for tanning and dyeing. Alnus nitida thrives in heavy, clay soils and can tolerate infertile soils. Its leaves are thin and oval-shaped, while its flowers and fruits appear in September to October. The tree is susceptible to attacks from the apple stem borer. In some areas, the bark is used for its anti-inflammatory properties. A study has also shown that Alnus nitida contains antioxidants.
