Xanthophyllum octandrum, also known as Macintyre's boxwood, is a slow-growing tree in the milkwort family found in coastal northeastern Queensland, Australia. It can reach up to 30 meters in height and has ovate to elliptic leaves and fragrant flowers. The tree is believed to have the potential to live for thousands of years, with one specimen being dated at 3,500 years old. It was first described in 1865 and has since been found in various locations in Australia and Papua New Guinea. The tree is an important food source for animals such as cassowaries and tree-kangaroos. It is currently listed as least concern by conservation organizations due to its wide distribution and lack of identified threats. Extracts from the bark of this tree have shown potential for use in pharmacology.
