Xanthophyllum griffithii is a tree belonging to the Polygalaceae family and is named after the British botanist William Griffith. It can grow up to 27 meters tall with a trunk diameter of 40 cm. The bark is smooth and ranges from brown to grey in color. The leaves are ovate to elliptic and can reach up to 10 cm in length. The tree produces white flowers on branched inflorescences and roundish brown fruits. It is native to a wide range of areas, from Myanmar to the Philippines and Java, and can be found in dipterocarp and kerangas forests at elevations of up to 1,400 meters. There are several recognized varieties and subspecies of Xanthophyllum griffithii, including those found in Borneo, Java, Laos, Peninsular Malaysia, the Philippines, Sumatra, and Thailand.
