Vigna vexillata, also known as the Zombi pea or wild cowpea, is a climbing plant found in tropical regions such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Venezuela. It has oval-shaped, dark green leaves with three leaflets and pink or purplish flowers. The plant is known for its strong twining stems and tuberous roots. It is often used as a weed suppressor and is palatable to animals. Vigna vexillata is adaptable to a variety of habitats and is commonly used as a food crop, particularly in Namibia where it is harvested from the wild. Its tubers, leaves, pods, and seeds are all edible and are consumed in various ways. The plant is also grown as a green manure and ground cover crop in poor soils.
