Vicia sepium, also known as bush vetch, is a perennial flowering plant in the pea and bean family. It is found in western Europe, Russia, Central Asia, and parts of North America. This plant has a climbing habit and is characterized by its branched tendrils that allow it to grow on surrounding plants. Its leaves are compound and pinnate with 4 to 8 pairs of leaflets, and its flowers are reddish-lilac or lilac-blue. Bush vetch is similar in appearance to common vetch, but can be distinguished by its hairless stems and fewer flowers. It blooms from May to August and is mainly pollinated by insects. The plant produces elongated, black pods with black or brown seeds inside. Bush vetch is a valuable forage crop with high nutritional value, and it supports a variety of insects and bees as a food source. It is commonly found in hedges and grass thickets.

Germination/Propagation Top
Suggest a correction or add new data!Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment. |
Requires Soaking: These seeds need to be soaked in warm water until they swell, which can take 24-48 hours. Seeds that float are usually not viable and should be discarded, along with the soaking water. |
