Ulex densus is an evergreen shrub endemic to Portugal, growing in woods and cliffs along the coast, as well as Quercus forests more inland. It is up to 0.5 m (1.6 ft) in height, with spines up to 3 cm (1.2 in) long and fruits as large as the plant's calyx. It is mainly threatened by quarries, urbanisation, industrial or commercial areas, communication networks, trampling, overuse and natural fires.
