Senna armata, also known as spiny senna or desert senna, is a flowering plant in the legume family. It is found in the desert regions of Nevada, Arizona, eastern California, and northern Baja California, where it grows in sandy and rocky areas such as arroyos. This shrub can reach up to a meter in height and has grooved, branching stems that end in thorns. The stems are covered in tubular hairs that protect the plant from the hot desert air. The leaves, which are made up of two to four pairs of small leaflets, are short-lived and drop soon after emerging. Fragrant and showy flowers, ranging from yellow to salmon pink, appear singly or in small clusters in the leaf axils. The plant produces legume pods up to 4 centimeters long.
