Macrotyloma geocarpum, also known as the ground bean, is a herbaceous annual plant and a minor crop in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a pulse belonging to the legume family and is primarily produced in western Africa, specifically in Benin and surrounding regions. It is known for its high protein content and desirable flavor, and can provide nutrition, income, and help alleviate hunger. However, its production has been decreasing in recent years due to constraints such as diseases and a lack of adoption in new regions.
