In summary, Macroptilium atropurpureum, commonly referred to as purple bush-bean, or siratro, is a perennial legume native to the tropical and subtropical regions of North, Central, and South America. It has been introduced for use as a food for stock to many tropical regions around the world and is rich in protein. It is used for cattle pastures intercropped with grass, used in hay, or as a ground cover to prevent soil erosion and to improve soil quality. It is also considered an invasive pest plant in some areas, including the north-eastern coast of Australia. It is a good source of protein, calcium, potassium, and manganese. It is also used as a weed suppressor and to fix nitrogen in the soil.
