Lysiloma candidum, also known as palo blanco, is a tree belonging to the Fabaceae family and is mostly found in the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. It can reach a height of 10 meters and is one of the few spineless woody legumes in the region. The tree has compound leaves with oval gray-green leaflets and produces creamy-white, fragrant flowers from March to May. These flowers are followed by red-brown pods that hang delicately on the branches. The species is distributed throughout the Baja California Peninsula and can also be found in the state of Sonora. It was first described by Townshend Stith Brandegee in 1889. The tree is mostly found on the gulf side of the peninsula and on adjacent islands in the Gulf of California. It is also present on the west coast of Sonora.
