Intsia palembanica, also known as Borneo teak, Malacca teak, merbau, and Moluccan ironwood, is a species of flowering plant in the Fabaceae family. It is native to tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia and the islands of the southwest Pacific. This plant differs from Intsia bijuga in the number of leaflets in its compound leaves. On August 23, 2019, it was officially declared as the national tree of Malaysia, known locally as pokok merbau. This decision was made by the then-Prime Minister, Mahathir, who stated that the tree symbolizes the strength and resilience of the Malaysian people.
