Indigofera heterantha, also known as Himalayan indigo, is a flowering plant in the legume family that is native to the northwestern Himalayas of Tibet. It is closely related to plants used for producing indigo dye. This deciduous shrub can reach heights of 2-3 meters and has pinnate leaves with up to 21 grey-green leaflets. In the summer, it produces purple pea-like flowers in racemes. It is a hardy plant that can tolerate drought and temperatures as low as -15°C. In colder areas, it may die back to ground level before regrowing the following year. It is often grown as an ornamental plant in sunny locations and has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Its Latin name, heterantha, means "with various or diverse flowers."
