Gastrolobium propinquum, also known as Hutt River poison, is a toxic shrub in the Fabaceae family that is native to the Southwest Australia savanna region. It grows up to 1.8 meters tall and produces orange, yellow, and red flowers from June to September. The branches may be spreading, erect, or whorled, and the leaves are in groups of three. This species is closely related to Gastrolobium oxylobioides and can only be distinguished when in flower. It was formally described in 1955 by C.A.Gardner and is named after its close relationship with Gastrolobium oxylobioides. Gastrolobium propinquum is typically found in hilly and flat areas with clay, sandy, or clay-loam soil, and is most commonly found in the Avon Wheatbelt and Geraldton Sandplains regions.
