Gastrolobium melanopetalum is a shrub in the family Fabaceae which is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. It grows up to 3 metres in height and has narrow-ovate leaves and distinctive purple-black pendulous pea-flowers. It was first described in 1864 by botanist Ferdinand von Mueller and placed in the genus Gastrolobium in 1995 by botanist Michael Crisp. It is usually found in thickets near streams or freshwater swamps and occurs south of Perth between the Darling Scarp and the Blackwood River.
