Eysenhardtia polystachya, also known as kidneywood, is a tree native to Mexico that can be found growing along the edges of forests and near water sources at elevations ranging from 150 to 3000 meters. In the past, this tree was used as a source of lignum nephriticum, a type of wood believed to have medicinal properties for kidney-related ailments.
