Daviesia asperula is a compact or spreading shrub with sharp, pointed leaves and orange-yellow and red flowers. It is a member of the Fabaceae family and is found only in South Australia. The plant can reach up to 2 meters in height and has flattened, tapering or curved leaves. Its flowers are arranged in groups of two or three and bloom from August to October. The fruit is a triangular pod and the plant mainly grows in mallee or open forest in poor soils. This species was first described in 1995 and has two recognized subspecies. It is found on the Eyre and Fleurieu Peninsulas and on Kangaroo Island.
