Dalbergia monticola is a species of flowering plant in the legume family Fabaceae, endemic to Madagascar. It is a deciduous tree up to 30 m tall, with imparipinnate leaves 3.5–12 cm long, and 20–35 alternate leaflets 0.3–1.7 cm long. It forms terminal inflorescences with white, 5–6 mm long flowers. The fruits contain one to three seeds. It inhabits evergreen humid mid-altitude forests along the eastern escarpment of Madagascar, extending onto the Central High Plateau and Northern Highlands at an altitude of around 250–1600 m. It produces a durable heartwood that is locally used for cabinet making and was internationally traded for guitar bodies and fingerboards. It is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and was listed in CITES Appendix II in 2013 with a zero export quota due to overexploitation and risk of confusion with similar species.
