Dalbergia lanceolaria is a medium-sized tree native to India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Burma, and Indo-China. Its root bark contains the apiose isoflavone compound lanceolarin, which is traditionally used as an analgesic and anti-diarrhoeal. The tree is recommended for reforestation projects on degraded land, as it produces new stems (ramets). There are three varieties of the species: var. errans, var. lakhonensis, and subsp. paniculata.
