Cryptosepalum exfoliatum is a dominant tree species found in the Zambezian Cryptosepalum dry forests of Zambia and Angola. Locally known as "mavunda", this tree provides habitat for the butterfly Mylothris mavunda. It has several subspecies and varieties, including craspedoneura, craspedoneuron, exfoliatum, fruticosum, pseudotaxus, puberulum, and suffruticans. This species is native to tropical Africa and plays an important role in the ecosystem of its habitat.
