Copaifera officinalis, also known as copaiba balsam, is a flowering plant found in Bolivia, Brazil, and Venezuela. It has also been introduced to other countries such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and India. The plant's trunks are tapped for its oleoresin, which is used for industrial, artisanal, and medicinal purposes. This oleoresin, also known as balsam of copaiba or copaiba oil, has been found to have stronger antibacterial properties compared to other species in its genus, such as Copaifera langsdorffii.
