Centrosema pubescens, also known as centro or butterfly pea, is a legume native to Central and South America. It is widely cultivated in other tropical regions as a forage for livestock. Its correct name is Centrosema molle, although it was previously referred to as C. pubescens. This plant is a perennial herb with trifoliate leaves and pale violet flowers. It produces long, flat pods containing spherical seeds. Centro is well-adapted to tropical conditions and altitudes below 600m, and is able to grow in nutrient-poor soils. It is often intercropped with grasses to increase protein in cattle diets and can also be used as a cheap source of protein for broiler chickens. Centro is propagated by seed and has a versatile growing season, with optimal rainfall ranging from 1500-1700mm. It is highly drought tolerant and can also endure waterlogging, flooding, and shade. Centro is a short day plant and yields better in acidic soils with a pH between 6.1-6.4. It is also able to fix nitrogen in the soil, making it beneficial for soil fertility. Centro is a promising forage option for regions looking to enhance the protein content of livestock feed. It is
