Cassia sieberiana, also known as the drumstick tree, is a tree native to Africa and belongs to the Fabaceae family. It can reach heights of 10 to 20 meters and has bright yellow flowers. The tree is commonly found in the secondary jungle of forests and has multiple medicinal uses in Africa. Its bark is dark grey to black, and its leaves are arranged in leaflets with 7-10 pairs. The tree produces both flowers and fruit, with the flowers blooming during the dry season and the fruit maturing from September to February. It is known as sindia in the Wolof language and sinjan in the Bambara language, which translates to "long breast" due to the shape of its seed pods. Cassia sieberiana is found in various parts of Africa and grows best in well-drained, humid soils. It is used for food, as well as for making tools, pestles, and mortars due to its hard and termite-resistant wood. It is also used as an ornamental tree and has cultural and religious significance in some cultures. Parts of the plant have also been traditionally used for teeth cleaning.
