Astragalus trichopodus, also known as Santa Barbara milk vetch, is a legume species native to southern California and Baja California. It can be found in various open habitats, including the Transverse Ranges and Mojave Desert. This perennial herb has a hairy stem and long leaves with lance-shaped leaflets. Its inflorescence is a raceme of cream-colored flowers, sometimes with a hint of light purple. The fruit is a laterally compressed legume pod that dries to a papery texture and contains numerous seeds.
