Astragalus australis, also known as Indian milkvetch, is a flowering plant in the legume family that is native to the Northern Hemisphere. It has spreading and erect stems with leaves covered in gray hairs. The flowers are greenish, white, purplish, or pinkish with green veins and purple tips, and the fruit is a red legume pod containing up to 12 seeds. This plant can be found in various habitats, including the Canadian Arctic and seaside areas. It was used as a food source by indigenous peoples in North America. A rare variety, var. olympicus, is found in the Olympic Mountains of Washington.
